LIGHT
About Us:
LIGHT, a non profit organization, was founded by Mr. Jackson John, with a vision to uplift the oppressed and less privileged community through strategic development initiatives and thus uphold human dignity and social values. The organization was established in the year 2007 with operational areas at Thiruvallur and Chennai district of Tamilnadu. The core focuses are empowerment of children & women, eliminating child labour and child abuses, combat effectively the exploitation, illiteracy, ill health and other evils targeting them.
Vision:
Our vision is to help out the deprived section of the society, caught in needy circumstances and facilitate to enable them attain standards of life.
Mission:
· To fortify the less privileged community through inclusive empowerment and ensure equitable status in the society
· To uphold the human rights and ensure their rights are respected
· To transform the current standard of living among downtrodden community and help them gain dignity and honor in their life
· To endorse and accomplish child care for all irrespective of their caste, creed, conditions and religion consequently reinstating their childhood
· To create a better world for children by safeguarding their rights as envisaged under UNCRC
· To provide children with every opportunity and encourage to reach their full potential
Objectives:
· To provide shelter, education, health and recreation for children in difficult circumstances to accomplish physical and intellectual development.
· To Promote education, health, sanitation and environmental hygiene to the under privileged sections of the society.
· To promote and support community education program on child rights, responsible parenting and child care& immunization
· To undertake awareness activities on prevention of HIV/ AIDS and inculcate the community responsibility amongst the people.
· To provide counseling and support avenues for youth and adolescents
· To provide health education and generate awareness on nutritional feeding, primary health care, family planning among the community
· To organize women for political, social and economic empowerment by imparting various trainings and economic development programs
Intervention & Strategy:
· Reaching out to homeless children, marginalized rural and urban people
· Setting up and strengthening of community based organizations
· Uniting and working against gender discrimination and Forced labour
· Awareness generation through community education program
· Ensuring community participation for sustainability
Major Activities:
· Non Formal Education to motivate and facilitate children to get enrolled in regular schools
· Supplementary Education- An additional educational service for academically backward students
· Shelter Home as a measure for rehabilitating children in difficult circumstances
· Strengthening & Regularize Parent Teacher Association
· Formation of children clubs for generating awareness on child Rights
· Formation of Women Sanghams for organizing women
· Conducting various training and economic development program for women
· Building government and non government networks
· Advocacy & Lobbying to take up issues affecting the marginalized
· Campaigns for common school system, child Friendly Education, elimination of child labour/yearly marriage/abuse
